Kensington is a small New England town in Rockingham County, New Hampshire. This rural town was once a parish of Hampton. It was incorporated in 1737 and was named after Baron Kensington, the owner of Kensington Place in London. Kensington is home to sixteen hills. The highest hill, Indian Ground Hill, is located on the border of Kensington and South Hampton. Kensington’s downtown is home to two churches, an elementary school, the town hall, a library, a cemetery and the fire and police departments. According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Kensington’s population at the time was 1,893 people. This included 657 households and 532 families. In 2000, there were 671 homes in Kensington and an average of 56 homes (houses / condos) per square mile.
